Our Cabinet Refinishing Process
Refinishing your cabinets is a significant investment in your home, and the quality of the result depends on the care taken at every stage. Our process is intentionally structured and thoughtfully paced, with each step designed to protect your space, ensure lasting performance, and deliver a refined, furniture-quality finish.
Below is an overview of how we approach cabinet refinishing—from initial consultation through final installation—so you can feel confident knowing what to expect throughout the process. For a more detailed walkthrough, including timelines and in-home preparation, you can read our full guide on what to expect during cabinet refinishing.
Step 1: Consultation, Estimate & Scheduling
We begin with a detailed consultation to understand your space, goals, and design preferences. After evaluating your existing cabinetry, we provide a clear, written estimate and outline the scope of work. Once approved, your project is scheduled with care to ensure proper timing, preparation, and minimal disruption to your home.
Before any work begins, we take steps to protect your home. Floors, countertops, and surrounding areas are carefully covered, and a controlled spray environment is set up on-site for cabinet frames. This phase ensures a clean, organized workspace and safeguards your home throughout the refinishing process.
Step 2: Preparation & Protection
Before any coating is applied, all cabinet surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and degreased to remove built-up residue from everyday use. This step is essential for proper adhesion and ensures the new finish bonds correctly to the existing cabinetry.
Step 3: Cleaning & Surface Prep
Step 4: Priming & Sanding
A professional primer is applied to create a stable, uniform base for the finish. Once cured, surfaces are lightly sanded by hand to smooth imperfections and prepare the cabinets for final coatings. This step is key to achieving a refined, furniture-quality result.
Step 5: Finish Coats
After priming, we apply top coats of a professional 2-component wood coating, selected for its durability and refined appearance. Cabinet frames are finished on-site in a controlled spray environment, while doors and drawer fronts are completed in our off-site shop for maximum consistency. Each coat is applied with care to create a smooth, long-lasting finish.
Step 6: Reassembly & Final Touches
Once the finish has fully cured, we carefully reassemble your cabinets and reinstall hardware, including any upgrades such as soft-close hinges. Doors and drawers are aligned for smooth, consistent operation, and we complete a final walkthrough to ensure the finish, fit, and function meet our standards. This step brings the project together, leaving your cabinetry clean, refined, and ready for everyday use.
